So Much to Say
This adorable little hedgehog cutie had some issues. Luckily, from those issues I’ve learned a little more about what NOT to do when weeding and layering. This little guy was another gem from the paper craft bundle recently available on Design Bundles. Look at the cute little face! How could anyone resist this little hedgehog cutie? The YouTube process video has another first for me (one I’d like to get better at executing well). Let’s dive right in…
Weeding Trial and Error
I’ve probably spent too much time on TikTok lately, watching all kinds of crafting hacks. One such hack was using a lint roller to pick up more of the weeding pieces to help save on time. That one did not work well for me. Even though I rolled it against my pant leg first to reduce the tack, it stuck to the vinyl too much. I quickly decided that I wouldn’t continue using it.
The second hack I tried was using painters tape to pull up multiple pieces at once. This one kind of worked, but I realized I messed up. What I did was continue to stick the same part of the tape onto the design over and over. This was a big mistake on my part as I later realized. Several lifted pieces of vinyl that stuck to the tape redeposited themselves onto other places of the designs. There were pieces everywhere. I really smacked my head over that mistake because it took switching between various tools and more time to fix my mistake.
Another problem I had with the tape method was doing it too vigorously. It’s quick in the IG edit, but easier to see on the YouTube edit. At the end of the tape part, I pulled up too quickly and harshly, lifting up and ripping the wrong part of the design. So sadly, instead of having four hedgehog designs to work with, I ended up with only three.
Layering Problem
Luckily for me, I had weeded two hedgehog cutie designs in preparation for possible issues. A third was on standby ready to be weeded if needed. The fourth sadly perished. I remember mentioning at some point that with lighter base layers, it’s beneficial to use a light table to help line up designs with parchment paper. But it looks like that fact slipped when I started to layer the design. Whoops! The second attempt with the light table was much better.
Learning a Bit More About Adobe Premier Pro
I currently use Adobe Premier Pro to edit all of my video content and seem to learn a bit more each time. The video for the hedgehog cutie had me leaning in to editing in errors made with text cards to briefly explain the problem. Adding text to video was not something I had done before, but I am proud to say that I can now. I was quite happy to be able to reposition the text on the screen as well.
If anyone out there knows of a good source of tutorials for video editing for Instagram and YouTube, please let me know. I’m more than happy to check them out!
